Printer Setup: Canon SELPHY, Epson Direct, Android Print, and Printer Studio
A complete guide to connecting Canon SELPHY over USB/Wi-Fi and Epson direct printing through Wi-Fi Direct, hotspots, or routers.
OurBooth printer setup guide
OurBooth Android provides direct printing for Canon SELPHY and Epson printers recognized by the direct-print plugins. The photo file is sent from Android directly to the printer over USB or the local network. If a model or transport does not match, use Android System Print or Printer Studio as the fallback.
Choose the transport before you start
Direct print is different from Printer Studio. Direct print uses Android and the printer directly. Printer Studio uses a computer as a bridge and relies on the printer driver installed on that computer. For a booth, use the exact model, connection, and paper size that appear in the app.

General OurBooth workflow
1Turn on the printer, install the ink cassette or ink, and load the paper cassette/media you will use.
2On Android, open Settings → Printer. Some builds show the page title as Printer Settings.
3Choose Canon SELPHY Printer for Canon, or Epson L-Series (Photo) for Epson direct printing.
4For Canon, open Connection Type and choose USB or Wireless (Wi-Fi). For Epson L-Series, use Wireless (Wi-Fi).
5Tap Scan USB Device or Scan Network. Select the discovered printer and tap Connect.
6After the printer is saved, open Advanced Settings to choose paper, media, quality, color, borderless, or margin for the model. Run a Test Print before enabling Auto Print.
Canon SELPHY over USB
The OurBooth USB direct path covers SELPHY CP1000, CP1300, and CP1500. CP1200 is not included in the OurBooth USB direct path, so use Wi-Fi for CP1200. The cable must carry data; a charging-only cable will not work.
USB connection steps
1Turn on the SELPHY and wait until it is idle. Make sure the paper cassette and ink cassette use the matching size.
2Connect the printer to Android with a data cable and the correct USB OTG adapter. CP1000/CP1300 commonly use a Mini-B computer cable; CP1500 follows the connector on the printer unit.
3If Android asks for USB permission, allow it or choose the option to always use this device. If no prompt appears, reconnect the cable and verify that OTG is enabled.
4Open Settings → Printer → Canon SELPHY Printer. Set Connection Type to USB and tap Scan USB Device.
5Select the discovered printer and tap Connect. Saved means the target is selected; the live connection is verified by Test Print or an actual print.
6Open Advanced Settings, select the paper size that matches the cassette, and print one Test Print. Do not choose 4R when the cassette contains L or Card media.
Important Canon USB note
USB permission and cable matter
A printer can be powered on and still remain invisible when the cable is charge-only, OTG is disabled, USB permission was denied, or the printer is not idle. Use Wi-Fi for CP1200 instead of forcing it through the OurBooth USB direct path.
Canon SELPHY over Wi-Fi
OurBooth provides a Wi-Fi path for SELPHY CP1200, CP1300, and CP1500. SELPHY can use its own direct connection or a Wi-Fi router/hotspot shared with Android. The Canon app is not required for the OurBooth direct print flow because discovery and job delivery are handled by the Canon plugin inside the app.
1In the SELPHY Wi-Fi or Connection Settings menu, enable the printer's direct connection or connect SELPHY to the router/hotspot used by the booth. Menu names vary slightly between CP1200, CP1300, and CP1500.
2On Android, open Wi-Fi and select the SELPHY SSID when using a direct connection. When using a router or hotspot, connect Android to the same SSID as the printer.
3If Android reports No Internet, choose to stay connected. Direct printing needs a local path to the printer, not internet access.
4Disable VPN and avoid guest networks or AP isolation because Canon discovery uses the local network.
5Open Settings → Printer → Canon SELPHY Printer → Connection Type → Wireless (Wi-Fi), then tap Scan Network.
6Select the printer by the displayed name and address, tap Connect, and run a Test Print. If multiple SELPHY units are present, do not select by name alone; check the address or device identity.
Epson direct printing over Wi-Fi Direct
For Epson L-Series/ET-Series models recognized by the app, OurBooth sends photos directly from Android using ESC/P-R over the local Wi-Fi network. Epson Smart Panel is not required for printing from OurBooth. Wi-Fi Direct is used as the initial bootstrap so Android can communicate with the printer.
Bootstrap an Epson L8050/L18050 without Epson Smart Panel
1Turn on the Epson and load paper. On button-and-light models such as L8050/L18050, this does not require an LCD or Epson Smart Panel.
2Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the network-status button together until the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct lights flash alternately. Release the buttons; the Wi-Fi Direct light remains on.
3Press and hold the network-status button for at least 5 seconds to print a network status sheet. Find the Wi-Fi Direct SSID and password on the sheet.
4On Android, open Wi-Fi and join the Epson Wi-Fi Direct SSID. Enter the password from the network status sheet. If Android offers to stay on a network without internet, choose to stay connected.
5Open Settings → Printer → Epson L-Series (Photo). Tap Scan Network, select the correct Epson, and tap Connect.
6After it is saved, open Advanced Settings and choose paper size, media, quality, color, borderless, and margin. Run one Test Print.
7If the scan completes with no result, wake the printer, wait for the network light to stabilize, and scan again. OurBooth also exposes a manual IPv4 field after an empty network scan.
Wi-Fi Direct does not need internet
When Android is connected to the Epson DIRECT SSID, a No Internet status is normal. Do not switch back to another Wi-Fi before the scan or Test Print finishes, or Android may drop the local printer route.
Move Epson to a phone hotspot or router
Wi-Fi Direct makes the printer its own access point. For a more manageable event setup, put the printer and Android on the same SSID from a second phone's hotspot or a router. After the Epson network changes, its IP address may also change, so OurBooth must scan again.
1Prepare the target SSID first. Prefer a 2.4 GHz network, an ASCII SSID and password, and no guest isolation or privacy separator. Android running OurBooth must be allowed to communicate with the printer locally.
2For a router with WPS, press the router's WPS button. Within about 2 minutes, press and hold the Epson Wi-Fi button for about 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct lights flash alternately. Wait for the Wi-Fi light to become steady.
3For a phone hotspot or router without WPS, use EpsonNet Setup or the Epson network installer from a computer connected to the target SSID. Choose Wi-Fi setup, select the hotspot/router SSID, enter the password, and apply the configuration.
4On models or firmware that expose Web Config, temporarily connect Android to the Epson DIRECT SSID, print the network status sheet, open the printer IP in a browser, and use Network/Wi-Fi Setup or Wi-Fi Setup Wizard. Choose the hotspot/router SSID and save. Menu names vary; use EpsonNet Setup if the Wi-Fi wizard is not available.
5After applying the configuration, the DIRECT connection will drop. Connect Android to the target hotspot/router SSID, not the Epson DIRECT SSID.
6Open Settings → Printer → Epson L-Series (Photo) → Scan Network. Select the printer on the new network and tap Connect.
7If mDNS does not find it, print a new network status sheet and enter the new IPv4 address in OurBooth's manual address field. The Android and Epson IP addresses must be on the same subnet.
8After the new connection is saved, open Advanced Settings in OurBooth and run a Test Print. Do not change the SSID again once the booth is live.
Hotspot from the same phone
A phone running OurBooth usually cannot also act as a client on its own hotspot. Use a second phone or a router for a shared network. If only one Android phone is available, use Epson Wi-Fi Direct.
What OurBooth Advanced Settings controls
OurBooth Advanced Settings controls print behavior, not Epson network credentials. For Epson, use it to choose paper size and media, quality, color mode, borderless, bleed margin, and Test Print. Change the Epson SSID through Wi-Fi Setup, WPS, Web Config, or EpsonNet Setup, then scan again in OurBooth.
When a printer is missing or Test Print fails
Confirm that Android and the printer are on the same network. Do not mix the Epson DIRECT SSID with the target hotspot/router.
Disable VPN, guest networking, AP isolation, or privacy separation that blocks device-to-device communication.
For Epson, wake the printer from power save, wait for the network light to stabilize, and scan again.
For Canon USB, check the data cable, OTG adapter, USB permission, and whether the printer is idle.
For Canon Wi-Fi, confirm that SELPHY Wi-Fi is enabled and Android uses the same SSID; use Wi-Fi for CP1200.
If discovery is empty, use the network status sheet and the Epson manual IPv4 field provided by OurBooth.
Confirm the paper cassette, ink cassette, paper size, media type, and frame orientation. A discovered model does not guarantee that the loaded media will be accepted.
If an Epson model does not appear in Epson L-Series or still fails after Test Print, use Android System Print or Printer Studio with the official model driver.
Pre-production checklist
1The printer is powered on, ink/ribbon is sufficient, the paper cassette is loaded, and there is no printer error.
2The correct printer appears under Canon SELPHY or Epson L-Series.
3Paper size and borderless mode match the physical media.
4One Test Print produces a physical photo with the correct orientation, color, and crop.
5Android will remain on the same network and the hotspot/router will not switch SSIDs during the event.
6Only after these checks pass should you enable Auto Print and start production.
Definition of a completed setup
A printer setup is complete when OurBooth finds the correct model, saves the connection, sends a Test Print, and the operator verifies the physical output. A Saved status or a printer appearing in discovery alone does not prove that printing works.
